Jean Paul Gaultier

"The Kunsthal museum in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, has organized the first international exhibition dedicated to the iconic designer Jean Paul Gaultier. Step into the exuberant, avant-garde universe of the designer and discover over 140 of his creations dating from 1970 to the current day.

"For over 35 years the French designer has been playing with Breton stripes and long skirts for men, reinventing the bustier, creating his signature conical bras and presenting the world with ever-increasingly innovative designs drawing on a wide range of references. Inspired by a world of extendable possibilities, Montreal fine art museum director Nathalie Bondil and the Kunsthal museum in Rotterdam have come together to organize The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. Step inside Gaultier's world in this multimedia exhibition, relive catwalk shows, films and concerts featuring his costumes and discover 30 of the designer's emblematic outfits - several of which were borrowed by Madonna and Pedro Almodovar, to name a few high-profile fans. Thanks to audiovisual expertise, the faces of the mannequins even come alive, adding an extra dimension to a truly multimedia experience. The exhibition also takes a look at the designer's different partnerships with cinema (Luc Besson's  The Fifth Element), music (Madonna and Tina Turner) and photography (Inez & Vinoodh, David La Chapelle, Pierre and Gilles). This beautifully presented theatrical exhibition is certainly not one to be missed.
Open until May 12, 2013. "
