Alexander McQueen - Fashion or Art?

Lee Alexander McQueen was born in London on March 17 in 1969. He started young to make dresses for his three older sisters and his dream was to become a fashion designer. He certainly did, and touched so many lives. Both the ones who knew him, and the ones who wear and simply adore his designs. The world of fashion was paralyzed when died at the age of 40 in 2010, only a few days after his mother's death and few days before Paris Fashion Week where his latest collection , Plato's Atlantis, was presented. He reintroduced tailoring to fashion, brought new technology to couture and also reinvented the Fashion Show.  McQueen worked at many different places such as Givenchy but he succeeded the most with his own label, Alexander McQueen and McQ. His shows were like theatrical events bringing drama and extravagance to the catwalk. He added a sense of fantasy, rebellion and gothic times to fashion. Some of his pieces are so special that they are almost unwearable and more art then a piece of clothing. In 2011 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC opened a show dedicated to Alexander McQueen and his contributions to fashion: Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty. The exhibition features approximately one hundred ensembles and seventy accessories from McQueen's prolific nineteen-year career including pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the "bumster" trouser, the kimono jacket and the three-point "origami" frockcoat. The label is still in business and his long-term assistant Sarah Burton is now the head designer. She designed the wedding dress for the Duchess Kate Middleton. Alexander McQueen is one of Britain's and the world's most important and known designers and he will never be forgotten.
