Designers through the ages - Charles Worth

Charles Frederick Worth is widely considered the father of Haute Couture. He was born on October 13th in 1825 in England. He worked at several London drapery shops before moving to Paris in 1846. He was hired by Gagelin and Opigez, well-known Parisian drapers where he made his mark. By 1858 he had established his own maison with his Swedish business partner, Otto Bobergh. Soon they opened more and larger stores and by the 1860's Princess Metternich, the wife of the Austrian Ambassador to France was a costumer. Monsieur Worth died in 1895 and his gowns were influence to many other designers and you can see some resemblance in f.ex. Valentino gowns.
